I created a new specification and told it to change the name of the server to match the VM name and told it to set the admin password, among a bunch of other things. I then put it in a powercli command to create a new VM with that spec What did I do wrong? This was user error. Eventually I thought to look under the events tab for the VM and it showed me the error that it ran into while applying the customizations.
VMware also runs sysprep on first login, so it got mad and refused to work. I find the process is sort of slow. If I wait, eventually is syspreps, reboots, and the settings stick. They've been sitting about minutes so far I suspect this is the cause of my issue with none of the settings applying, but can't say for sure.
